Anyone use these Self-set blades on their jointer or planer?

Better to get the Self-Set or Posi-Set?
Thoughts?

Someone brought up Esta on the Felder Owners Group site not that long ago. I think that whoever posted it liked them. Sorry. Don't have much more info than that but you may want to do a search for Esta on the FOG. If I was going to spend the money though I would just go to a Byrd or like head. Felder has a pretty good system for indexing their blades but it is never perfect and you still have straight knives that seem to dull just by turning on the power.

I own a Hammer A3-31 which has self indexing knives, they're fantastic.

Undo the set screws, pull out the knife holder, flip or insert a new knife, put it back in the head and tighten the set screws.

Takes about 1 minute per knife, no adjustment required..............Regards, Rod.

My Wadkin jointer has a similar but not the same thing, the blades sit on springs, no measurement just use the height setting jig and do up the screws and it takes all of one minute. Mind you it has to be at least 40 years old.

I have a Tersa head in my planer and it uses no tools other than a hammer and a wooden wedge to replace knives but it is a whole head and not an add on.

I use the Esta System in my jointer, and it is a replacement for standard knives. They never have to be adjusted after the initial install, and the steel is good. I use the cobalt steel knives, and they are worth the little extra cost. Five minute knife changes are nice, and I have not had to set them for about ten years now.
