What are the width of the boards? Do you have Cash, a way to haul it and a place to store it? What are the buyers fees? Go look at it and as long as it isnt rotted or infested why not. You probably have to buy the whole lot and it will need to be gone at a certain time after the auction.

Good luck and KNOW all the little detail and regulations before you bid.

Here's the whole shebang if anyone wants to read the registration form. Looks like the boards are 8" and 10" wide, not 8'/10' long as posted above....

Don't really need 18MBF of mahogany....but would be interested in the back story. the US Marshals service acquired this how?? That should be a good one.

$1 a bd foot an a space to store it, over a long run you could make some money. Triple it at least.

I would want someone who knows wood to verify that it is mahogany and not some lesser wood.

It also looks like it isn't stickered so some of the inside pieces could be in poor shape.

I would think it was already dry being finish milled and edged. Wish I actually had the money.

I think that is wishful thinking especially for genuine Mahogany. Back in Nov '09, I won just over 2000bd ft of African Mahogany (4 different lots). The price averaged about $3/bdft with 10% buyers premium included, as well as me renting the truck and hauling it back to NJ . That was IRS auction of Taylor-Ramsey Corp in Va. They had a lot of lumber there to pick from. Of course those were way smaller lots therefore bids were higher.
In this case it is a huge lot and not to many bidders would be interested. So, it might be a steal for someone after all. It will take only 10 or so Creekers to do it.

Yeah if you get caught up in the bidding cost can go high. I usally set a limit and have landed a few lots of mahogany less than 1.50 with everything. never needed shipping though.

What does a board foot of Mahogany weigh? I think you are looking at more than one tractor trailer load just based on weight.

There is an embargo in the US on genuine mahogany from Brazil. Perhaps the Marshalls came by this lumber by seizing it as contraband.
