A guy can never have too many Stanley #4s, right? :o

http://home.earthlink.net/~tomlarussa/e1.jpg

******************************************

If seven #4s is good, then eight must be even better, right?

http://home.earthlink.net/~tomlarussa/e11.jpg

******************************************

Er, did I say "eight" number fours? Make that NINE!

http://home.earthlink.net/~tomlarussa/e12.jpg

******************************************

Between this #60 1/2 and the one I already have, I should be able to make one whole one. :)

http://home.earthlink.net/~tomlarussa/e2.jpg

******************************************

How could I resist a jointer that's even bigger than a #8? (26 inches long!)

http://home.earthlink.net/~tomlarussa/e3.jpg

******************************************

I'm really not sure why I bought this...

http://home.earthlink.net/~tomlarussa/e4.jpg

******************************************

Sure, I just bought 41 old chisels, but why not a few more?

This is for my jointer. (That's a primitive tool that eats electrons.)

Since the weekend started, I bought two more #4's, and these little jewels tonite... :D Actually I'm afraid to count all the 4's, not to mention the 5's, 3's, etc...

I'm really not sure why I bought this...

The monsterously thick, tapered, metallic thingy in those are useless.

I have just the place for it. Best send it on...:D

I seem to be col.. amassing #4s myself. The one in the bottom right looks especially sweet.

I keep watching those long transitionals...but the shipping kills it for me...that and schtinking schnipers. I'm not bitter or anything. :p

Tom,
No wonder there is a shortage of rust bucket tools available. You best hold up a bit till your new too shop is open or you will need a warehouse before the store opens. Are you going into business, or is your home in danger of floating away and these are to be part of the anchoring system? It must be one or the other.

Seriously, are you planning on selling your extras to support your addiciton?

Don't worry guys, there are millions out there and Tom is just going through a phase. Do what I'm doing, which is just not bothering to look on eBay for a bit. He'll come to his senses one of these days (sooner, rather than later, if he's married) and nurse a dull, persistent headache - not unlike being hungover - until he sells off some his shamelessly begotten excess.

Sorry Mike,

I never would have bid against another SMC'er if I'd known. :(

I looked longingly at those little jewels, but I didn't bid on them. Glad they found a good home with one of "us." :)

I can't comment...really, I can't.

Actually yes. I need to turn some part of my little "hoggy" ... er ... I mean "hobby" ... into a money-making proposition, even if it's only a little bit, or "she who controls the checkbook" is going to put me out on the street. :(

I've only been doing real woodworking for a few months now, so I don't have the skills to make furniture that anyone would buy, at least not yet.

On the other hand, since I don't have the money to spend on top quality new tools, I have by necessity become pretty good at fixing up old ones.

So, I figure I'll fix up the extra planes and chisels, sell them to my buddies here on SMC, and then I can say See, I'm not wasting money on woodworking. Why just last month I made a profit of almost $25!

:)

Yeah, I know what you mean. I just bought another #5 - making six or seven of them so far, along with seven or eight #4's, six #3's, and about 70 (Yes, seventy) other assorted sizes and shapes. Trying to figure out how to display them, but don't really have the needed wall space for it...

You profligate folks have been on a buying binge. I, on the other hand, have been penurious and selective. Why I haven't bought more than 5 new tools in the last day.:D I ordered two Auriou rasps- a left handed 8" modelmakers and an 8" flat, from Joel yesterday. Last nite I went and picked up 3 Pfiel carving gouges at Woodcraft. I try to buy only what I need for a project and I'm in the midst of one right now and absolutely positively NEEDED these tools. We won't talk about the woodworking books I bought last week at Colonial Williamsburg.

Dan, thank you for that public service. Man, anyone with a kid ready to take the SAT's? Tell 'em to lurk here at SMC and they'll get all the prep they need to score well on the verbal sections.........

Wow,

Glad I started hanging out here, good to know I gots a bit of company! I've always been a bit shy about admitting the number of planes I had scrounged (mostly offa fleabay,) and at least a couple of others here are close and catching up and willing to admit it:p . The #4s are between 6 and 12, I just don't recall. Almost as many #5s. 6s,7s 3s. 1/4s, 1/2s. ~30 block planes, ~25 woodies (bench planes), ~25 moulders, dozen transitionals, buncha shoulders, combo planes, rabbet planes. Only one #8 though:D ! Twas a bit much, no I don't want to display more than a few, yes, someday I'll rid myself of many.

Tool of the day club can catch up with ya. But no tools for almost a month- can he make it? If I can only sell a few I might be able to see the ceiling:o . Of course if it were just planes, it wouldn't be near so much:eek: .
