I like the ones that put a taper on the first part of the plug.

I bought some from one of the common suppliers, can't remember which one, but it was something like RM2000 or some such designation, and they were stainless steel, and had a unique cutting edge that was a bit curved.

DON"T buy them! I was so mad I quit buying anything from that catalog house. Worst rip off ever. did not stay sharp, in fact they were not sharp new, and the way they were cut it was hard to resharpen. Can't remember the name but just avoid stainless.

The ones I am using now are from LV, and they have been doing just fine.

I wondered about stainless as a cutting material ever since that catalog house started advertising them. They sell forstner bits I believe too in the same material. It's like anything else, cheapies should work just a matter of how well and how long. Sorry to hear about the issues. LV seems to do a good job of qualifying their imports and Fuller has always been good as mentioned.
