A few shots of an Oregon Ash bowl I completed. I turned this bowl while it was green but as happens with Ash wood, it cracked! So.... I employed a little trick that Alan Beatty taught me. He said to "somehow accentuate a wood flaw (character)". So, I sewed it up with some leather and added a few beads, then burned and carved an eagle feather to give it that character.

Very nice. Sorry about the crack. I like the embellishments, definetly add interest to the piece.

Really nice NE Mike. I really like the leather and the feather is a very nice touch.

I like what you have done. The wood and form are great, and the sewing and feather add a neat touch. I've got a few hollowforms that could use some stitching...

Brilliant solution, that bowl was too good to waste.

Mike, that crack was the best thing that could have happened to you on this piece!! What a wonderful opportunity for some artistic expression and you pulled it off with class! Well done! I really like the end result.

I like the save you made on that. Excellent job on the feather.

Everytime I see one of these stitched bowls I think of trying it on some of my cracked roughouts. The feather is neat but beyond my capabilities. Very nice job!

Great save! Would have been a shame to relegate it to the firewood pile!

That's great! It seems like more than a save to me... I think you ended up with something better.
