I grabed the short knarly stump of an ornamental Devils Walking Stick shrub that was being discarded and was able to carve a small bowl and a hollow form. I think I'll turn an ebony finial on the HF later. From the same source, I also salvaged the the top of the trunk of an ornamental cherry tree which was full of shoots. Last, a piece of wormy mesquite generously sent to me by another creeker.

The DWS is really nicely figured but very hard wood. Photos could be better.

cheers,
Terry

Terry, that hollow form is really nice - fantastic piece of wood. The mesquite has a bunch of character, too. Great work!

Good find. That wood really looks good. The figure on the hollow form is beautiful. Very appealing, a finial is in order! Nice work.

Those are some great pieces Terry. I do like the HF. The mesquite has a lot of character to.

All of them look great to me. Beautiful wood and good form. And I think your pictures are really good too. Wish mine looked as good. Devils Walking Stick is a new one to me. Does it go by any other name?

Richard.... I stand corrected. Not Devils Walking Stick (a.k.a. Hercules Club). The wood actually came from a shrub known as "Harry Lauder's Walking Stick". The scientific name is Corylus Contorta. You can google Harry Lauder's Walking Stick to see images.

Well I've never heard of any of those walking stick plants, but those sure are some nice forms!

These are all very nice looking pieces, but I think the cherry is my favorite as far as the wood itself goes, that is just a beautiful piece of wood.

I like them all, they show very well. It is amazing what good figured wood can do for a peice. The finial would be a good idea but the wood doesn't really need it.
