This is my most recent piece. The vessel is carved, sandblasted and bleached cherry. The legs are mahogany, dyed and buffed.

6"x6"

Comments and critiques welcome.

Jason.... this is absolutely amazing! Love the concept, the carving and the sense of motion the piece portrays! Seriously - very impressive work and I look forward to seeing more of your turnings!

Very interesting piece, Jason. Somehow, maybe it's just the camera shots, there's so much air that the black frame seems to steal the show. WAY beyond my patience level. Thanks for posting.

Thanks all. I love doing these types of turnings...but very frustrated with my ability to photograph them. I really need to invest in some gradient paper and proper lighting.

Beautiful piece that requires more attention to detail then my ADD will allow.

As your piece is only 6x6 you could print your own gradient paper off if you have a photo quality printer. This is pretty compressed so if you PM your email, I can send you, or anyone who would like it, the larger version

Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to have a place like Kinkos print a decent sized copy of this? Like "24x"36 .....Just curious...

The one here in Fayetteville wanted $80. You can get them on line for about $36. For small stuff, my 8x11 works great

Really nice work. You had to go a little nutty carving that without crushing it,it's so finely cut.

PS; I live by Kent State and the art shop just off campus has the paper and a light poster board.Maybe try by a campus near you.

Jason, I was looking at this over on WoW, what a spectacular piece. I've been playing with similar 'skeleton' pieces lately and they are great fun to do aren't they. Your way to suspend it is great and the black and white contrast work very well on it. Great work!

I can't really add that much; most already having been said. You are really an artist! Keep the shots coming . . .

Jason,

Welcome to the frey. Very nice work. This is my favorite of the series so far. I really like the look of the legs on this one.

Try a little underexposure with the bright white pieces. Also, you may want to experiment with a small spot light, shadows really accentuate a wonderfully pierced piece like yours.
