Getting ready to replace some interior doors. Should you keep the jambs above the flooring surface a bit or set them on top? If spaced up some is there a standard height, say 3/8", 1/2" or what? The same question for the casings too. If you do set them above the floor surface what's the best method to use to space everything the same? Everything right now is carpeted, will keep the bedrooms that way, but will eventually put in wood flooring in the living room and kitchen. Thanks. Greg

I'd level the jamb and set it as tight to the floor as I could keeping it level. The door should have a 3/8 undercut to clear the carpet. I'd set the casings to match the jamb. I'd do it that way & cut it back later with a jamb saw to install the new flooring. All flooring isn;t the same height and you don;t really want an ugly gap at the bottom of the casings.

The HF multitool does a great job of trimming. Set them to the floor, and trim when you need to.
