I really like to use masonite for prototyping items. Do any of you have suggestions for spray painting this material? Primer? Coats? Experience. Or if you have a better material to use that would be great. I like masonite because it is super cheap 1/8in 4x8ft sheet is only $7. Thanks.

Jeff,

Artists use masonite as a substrate all the time. They de-grease it with a turpentine wipe and then coat it with gesso (a white ground... looks like white paint). It can be sanded smooth or textured as needed. You can spray it with an airbrush if you have a large aperture like a #5 tip and put several light coats on to cover (thins with water). Then, you can paint over that with whatever you like.

cheers, dee

Thanks. I found some spray paint that after a coat of primer looks great. It is for plastics but holds great.
