Hello,
I would appreciate some help.
I have made a small writing desk and would love to leave the face clean looking to display the wood. It has one simple drawer. I have seen drawers that you push in a fraction of an inch and a spring or magnetic mechanism releases a catch of some type and the drawer opens an inch or so allowing you to open the drawer more fully by pulling the front face. Where should I look for such a mechanism.
Many thanks,
Jake

these are often called touch latches
here are a couple:

I think you're looking for a "push to open" drawer slide. Google that, or here's one:

There are touch latches intended for doors. They generally don't push very hard, because doors swing freely. If your drawer has very good slides, perhaps they'll work. However, there are also things called drawer pushers that push harder. http://wwhardware.com/catalog.cfm/ProductID/BX1021%20L32 The downside is that they require a fair amount of room behind the drawer.

But if you haven't made the drawer yet, you might consider using Blum Tandem drawer slides, plus Blum's Tip-On device. Go to http://wwhardware.com/catalog.cfm?GroupID=Cabinet%20Drawer%20Slides&CatID=Blum%26%230174%3B%20Tandem%20Undermount%20Dr awer%20Slides&SubCatID=Tandem%20Slides%20Full%20Extension and look at the bottom of the page.
