Another request came in for "buckeye" wine stoppers. This trio made from a log my neighbor dragged out of a sinkhole. His grandad put it there over 80 years ago.

In order to be 100% honest with the customer, I took pictures of the spalting in the least favorable light. I also told him the story of the log, so I hope that compensates for the wood.

Sanded to 600, Then dipped in Minwax Fast-Drying poly. I had used some wood hardener on these during the turning, and I think it interfered with the poly. The dipping technique seemed to work ok, but not great. It went on too thick, and required some sanding before buffing.

Curt, they sell very well here. My wife thinks it's interesting that I make these since I am not a buckeye fan. An alumnus yes, but not a fan.
