I sprayed 3 coats last Sunday. I want to put down 2 more coats. Do I need to sand first? Any special preparation needed?
Thanks.

I lightly sand with 320 or 400 and the wipe with 50/50 water/denatured alcohol.

I lightly sand after my first coat and before my last coat.

You do not have to sand, but many folks will take off any nibs and dust motes prior to spraying the final coats. The EM6000, like solvent based lacquers and shellac, is formulated to "burn in" to previous coats, making one layer, unlike varnishes and many other finishes.

Jim, the original poster applied the first three coats almost a week ago. According to Target, he should sand. You do not get "burn in" if the finish has dried for more than a few hours.

From the Techical Info sheet for EM6000.

"Sanding between each coat is not necessary unless contamination has effected the film formation,
or if the last coat has dried for more then 24 hours."

Thanks, Howie...I'll make a mental note of that in the future....missed that in the spec!
