I just got a Kreg K3 jig used, and with it was given a set of plans for a nice garden bench. The plan does not use pocket hole joinery, but calls for 3/8" dowels for vertical rungs that make up the back. Pocket holes do not look like an attractive alternative this time as it will be outside.

Looking at the Kreg drill block, the flat face resembles a doweling jig. I guess I could screw a piece of wood cut to 15 degrees to have a perpendicular clamping surface. Has anyone used a Kreg jig for dowels?

If it is a bad idea, I have a brand new extra drill block I might be able to barter for a doweling jig. But I doubt that a doweling jig would see tons more use than a superfluous Kreg drill block would as I am not a big fan of dowels.
