Dave, those turned out great!! And, some other nice looking turnings in the background, too. What finish did you use - looks like lacquer sprayed from a gun and buffed.

Looks like a personal endorsement of the McNaughton coring tool? I local turning club is doing a demo on Monday. I was given one as a gift but haven't tried it, yet. I hope my results look like yours. Nice work.

I know Dave uses both the McNaughton and Oneway coring systems. If I recall correctly he tends to use the Oneway for stacked salad bowls and the McNaughton when we wants shaping (he did an Ogee natural edge set in January for our club)

The bowls turned out great, the coring process must have gone well I assume. What a great set, but looks like you'll need a upgrade on the photo tent if you intend to do much of these.:D

That is really using a piece of wood to its maximum. Great job, and fabulous technique coring that many from on chuck of wood.

Great looking bowls. When you posted these initially, I wondered if you had a headstock with more than a 20 inch swing on your pm bed since you had mentioned that you used the oneway coring system. So was the 22 inch done from a seperate piece you slabbed off and then turned outbord or.....Just curious in case I someday have that problem.

Baxter, I posted some pictures with the big one still on the lathe. The swing on my lathe is 24". I put the burl between centers, put a tenon on the bottom. Put it in the chuck and start coring from the top, if there is a lot of size left when I get to the last bowl I just work with what is left and on this burl there was. I then finsh turning them on my vacuum chuck, that is the short version of the process.
