I'd never turned any fruit before yesterday and to be honest it wasn't something I ever planned on doing but a customer requested some so I agreed to turn 15 pieces. I turned 4 Burbinga apples,2 Oak apples,3 Oak pears,3 Beech pears and 3 Yew oranges. It ended up being quite a fun job and quick too with no hollowing required:cool:

They're not all shown here just what would fit in a bowl that I had to hand. They are finished with satin lacquer with a little bit of paste wax rubbed over afterwards to give them a nice feel in the hand.

Johnny - that's a really cool idea and they look great! Your customer should be pleased!

Very nicely done. The bubinga gives a very appealing apple color.

Neat! The look good enough to eat. :D I just read an article in a magazine about turning fruit, and now that I've seen your's, I have to give it a try.

Thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention that the stalks are pieces of birch twig and the bits underneath are cloves.

That's really great looking. I like the bowl too. The verigated (sp?) uh, multi-colored ones really grab me.

Nice looking fruit collection BUT.......I wanna know more about the nice, spiral-beaded bowl.
Did you turn it also & if so.....how did you do it, Sorby spiralling tool?? please!!

I like that bowl, but I am not sure I would eat the fruit - it looks a little grainy. ;)

Jon, they're not only grainy but a little hard on the teeth too!

The bowl was made from a piece of Chestnut I got from the local woodyard, they had it for about 10 years before I bought it,it was so dry getting a good finish was going to be impossible(or at least take more sanding than I was willing to do!) and an internal knot hole appeared right in the centre, so I attacked the inside with the Sorby Spiraling tool and torch and the outside is half done with the sorby tool and half done with an angle grinder. I'll take a pick tomorrow in the daylight!

Johnny very cool fruit you have made here! Those apples have a great color of red to them as well.

Some very nice looking fruit...turnings. However the apple on the far right appears to be going bad. You may want to take it out before it spoils the rest.:D

Nice work on the whole bundle. The clove for the bottom is a fantastic idea that I will be forced to borrow at some point in the future. Thanks!

Now that is really nice. My wife would go nuts over it, she likes wooden fruit. With the wood and the cloves, it ought to smell nice too.

Very Nice!
I can see I'm going to have to add fruit to my list of turnings to try!
