I spent about 8 hours working on the plate over the last 2 days. The plate is about 90% complete. If you look at the pics in order you can see how the image is built up in layers. Going from dark to light, and bottom to top. I still need to add some detail and refine the nose. Once the burning is complete I will add color to the image. Then it is over to the finishing table. I still need to turn the tenon of and do a little burning on the back.

That is amazingly nice work, Jeff. I feel as if I could reach out and scratch Earls' nose. Thanks for posting.

Now that's what I like to see. Talent, skill, and ALOT of patience. I would like to learn more about turning plates so what thickness of a blank do you start out with??

Thanks Everyone. This is the only place I have been accused of having patience :)

Donny, I use blanks that are around 1-1/2"- 2" thick. I don't like to use any thing thicker as it is just to much waste.

Thanks Everyone. I talked to a lady today about making a plate for Victoria Stilwell from "It's me or the Dog" I have to have it done in 2 weeks. I should have pictures of her with it by the end of the month. I am pretty excited.
