I have seen in some pictures in certain posts here and there work lights that have a long neck, bendable I believe from the looks of them, and I think they are LED...but even if not, does anyone know where to get a work light like this? Although I have ok lighting in my shop my eyes arent what they used to be, especialy when trying to peer into a HF/Lidded box to see how deep I am or how smooth it is. I need something I can bend around and aim in different directions as needed. If someone could point me to something like this I would appreciate it greatly, thanks, Tim

I've got a pair of these (http://oneway.ca/lathes/sanders_light_stand.htm). They are a bit spendy, but they are really nice.

Like Joel stated, Jansjo work lights from IKEA for $9.99 and a couple of magnets. Lights can only be bought at the store, not online.

I got two from Packard Woodworks, cause they were the only ones I found that had a decent price on a pair vs. just one. Here's the link:

Hi Guys, Joel & Phillip those are kind of like the ones I have seen I believe, but I checked and your right you cant buy them online only in the store, and we dont have an Ikea anywhere in colorado...one is being built but wont be finished until next fall. Jon, I have seen those before and they are great looking light kits...but man they are pricy, to spendy for me at the moment but thanks for shareing the info here. Steve thanks for posting that info,l not sure that would work as well as the long neck ones I have seen but will keep that option open depending upon what I can come up with, Thanks everyone for your inout here, Hopefully someone will post that got theirs somewhere other then ikea as I think that style is what I am looking for. Here's the one I use. I highly recommend it. It's a excellent light to use to find sanding scratches when doing your final sanding.

I just read the spec's on this light. It appears that it has changed since I bought it. Mine is a 150 watt light with a high & low setting. This one states that it is only a single setting 50 watt light. So it may not be worth buying now.

I have one of the Ikea lights (got it on flea-bay) and one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RL5FTG/ref=wms_ohs_product_C

The Ikea light is not bright. I keep it by the Delta to look for scratches. The other one is fantastic, and I'm going to order another. Comes with magnetic and clamp base. I use the magnetic and it's attached to the Jet. Well worth the $$, IMO.

I've seen these on sale at Woodcraft for $19.99. They also have a version with a magnifying lens. I got that one, it's quite bright, and will get this one the next time they go on sale.

I also have this one: http://tinyurl.com/4bea4lk from Harbor Freight.

I have 2 of the Moffatt lights on my lathe and one on my workbench. Excellent lights. Craft Supplies and Packard stock them.

Whatever lights you get, be sure that they are incandescent and not florescent. When sanding, it's helpful to have an incandescent light at an angle so that it creates shadows to see the sanding scratches. Florescent lights throw little or no shadow so they make a poor task light for sanding.

Tim,

It looks like you have already made your decision and are not going to buy the $19.99 (on sale) LED from Woodcraft. Just in case anyone else checks this thread when making their decision, let me add that I have this Woodcraft light and it is very dim. After buying mine I found a lot of other posts saying that the Woodriver light is dim, so check it out before you buy one. Note that this is not the magnifying version that John M. has, which looks a lot brighter in the video on the Woodcraft site.

If you are a DIYer you may want to look on ebay for …gooseneck flex arm…..
Someone has very good quality 18" for $5.00. Two with shipping would be about 16.50.
There is no problem with it holding in position with a 36" neck. You can mount to magnets but I mounted mine on the wall center of the lathe and it reaches all needs.
The main thing I don’t like about the "store bought" ones are the size of the fixture. I picked up a fixture at HD, about the size of a silver dollar and 100 watts for $10. The small head fixtures for tact lighting may also work.

I got one from Woodcraft, that looks like the HF light, but it's (naturally) more expensive, but it comes with a clamp and magnetic base.
