I need to glue in a backer brace to a Crown molding being attached to a face frame. What is the angle of the backer piece? 39 1/2 degrees? I forget

Thanks George but I needed the angle created by the crown after its mounted to the wall. I was reviewing a bunch of Norm's shows and found one where he says that angle is 40 degrees. I want to set a brace between the crown and the wall (face frame in this case).

According to the inventor of the TrueAngle system, the majority of crown molding is either 45/45 or 38/52. You really should measure what you have to get that angle. The angle you are referring to is either 45 or 38 in these examples. I just did some CM work in our kitchen and the angle measured closer to 40. That is why I think you are best served by measuring what you are actually working with.
