This hollowform ain't nothing to write home about but I thought the wood was kind of cool. It's English Walnut from a small crotch with three piths spaced almost perfectly around it. English Walnut has a lot of of sapwood so you have to get a pretty good sized piece to get into much of the dark heartwood. This wood wasn't very big so it's mostly the cream colored sapwood. I cut it a few years ago and didn't take care of it so it cracked pretty bad. I filled the cracks with some black permatex epoxy mixed with some key machine shavings. It's supposed to be a southwest style form, not sure if I got that or not. But the cracks made me think of the Rolling Stones lyrics for a name. Hollowed with the Nyvall super hollower using some carbide cutters I got for it. 8" x 4", 3 coats of AO and Beall buffed.

Nice, that crack in picture number three looks a bit like a large spider. I'd probably scream like a girl if I saw that out of the corner of my eye ;D

You did a good job on that HF. I like the form and the little bead adds some interest.

Curt,

Very nice. The form and wood is beautiful. I too have used key shavings to fill checks. I did not get the bright brass inlays that I was hoping to get. I think that along with the brass shavings I got grinder grit which dulled the brass. There is a powder product out there that when mixed with epoxy produces a bright brass finish. On a piece like yours I probably would use epoxy and coffee grounds.

Looks very nice. If it had a few more cracks, it might have ended up in tatters, scattered all over.

I think the color(s) is what really does it for me :)

Very nice! I love that you kept the pith from all the branches, and the cracks look really cool. Nicely done.

Curt, great title! Love the contrast of the knots and the cream colored wood, and the rim detail is very nice! I think you did great on the form.

Beautiful piece, no matter what you call it! Very interesting chunk of wood well done! I love the cracks around the pith...sorta like a comic book "splat" marks.

Well even with the cracking I think it looks beautiful and maybe it just added some character, the epoxy seemed to work good for ya so I'll have to keep that in mind when I have the same problems.

Great job, Curt. Color, form and finish all look good. I know some people don't like a piece with cracks, but I do. Adds character I think.

Curt you can make even splits look good :D, that's some good looking turning, and the finish isn't too shabby either, thanks for showing  :)

Very cool Curt...and I likes the spider look of the one big crack array...very cool. Didn't know that EW got this light in color. Great curl in the one area, I like rim treatment and overall shape. I guess it's a keeper! :-D Well done.
