for Portsmouth, VA and Jupiter, FL areas. I'd ask for suggestions for the trip down and back but I think I would be pushing my luck. Are we there yet? Huh? Huh? I'm not looking for any of the chain stores but for flea markets, pawn shops, antique stores, etc. where you've found decent use neander tools. Looking for chisels, gouges, saws, planes. You know the stuff that just calls out to you. Users, fixer uppers not museum quality. Thanks, Paul

The South can be a black hole as far as quality used tools are concerned. I have spent most of my life in the deep south and rarely ran across any quality tools at Antique Malls or Flea Markets. Usually, when I found anything, they were WAY overpriced and in terrible shape (i.e. a very rusted Stanley #6 missing both tote and knob for $50).
That being said, tools can be found. You just have to have a bit of luck. Columbia, SC has some good antique malls where you might get lucky. It also has two big Flea Markets on Hwy 1 between downtown and I-20.
