Is there any way one can input fractions in the fields instead of decimals? That would be a good way to figure board feet for a project.

Excel 2007 "Home" tab

Select input cells

select "Format", "Format cells", then "Fractions"

+1 When you select it, select how many digits you want, i.e. "UP TO TWO" so you can put in 13/64 etc.

You can also do that in Excel 2003.

Just right click on a cell or group of cells and then do format cells.

You can set up a cell for the fractions and then have a cell next to it with a formula that equals the first cell and then you will have it both ways.

If you format it as fraction, you can enter fractions or decimals and it will display as fractions.

If you format it as "number", you can enter as decimal or fraction, and it will display as decimal.

If you bring up a brand new sheet, and don't format the cell[s], if you enter a fraciton, it guesses you meant a date.

The library is a great place for knowledge, and yes Excel is an extremely powerful program....

Open Office's spreadsheet software works pretty much the same way, for those using the free stuff.
