Auction tomorrow

There an auction being held tomorrow in town. A few of the items listed that I'm interested in were, a Rockwell 8" jointer (long bed according to the ad) and a Delta 20" drill press. Unfortunately no model numbers available. I know this will probably be a difficult Q, but does anyone have any input as to models that I would want to avoid. They had also listed 2 Delta wood lathes. I wouldn't mind spending a couple of bucks knowing I'm buying a pig in a poke. Since this auction is being held at the old high school this may be some of the old shop equipment.

I cannot give you specific advice on any of the above, but Fine WW magazine has an article in their current issue that talks about buying used machines from auctions and such. It includes a small tool kit to take with you to check machines, and also gives a machine by machine checklist for what to check. I'd get that issue and take it with you. Be sure to post all your great finds!!
