I've been lurking for awhile. The Redwood posts encouraged me to post these photos of a Redwood bowl I turned last week. The photos were taken with my phone, so sorry about the quality.

The bowl is 10" x 5" h. Wall thickness is about 3/8". It has a very small foot about 1/8".

The finish is walnut oil. I thought the wood turned pretty easily without too much tear-out. With that said, I did power sand to get rid of the tear-out that was there.

Thanks to some instruction by Reed Gray in Eugene, I was able to get several bowls out of this blank using my McNaughton coring tool.

Comments and critiques welcome.

Nice wood, and welcome! You should stay out of lurk mode, and post more of your turnings. Nice bowl

Welcome to SMC. Really a nice looking bowl. No need to lurk Jeff with a bowl like that. Nice wood also.

Beautiful looking bowl. I love Redwood burl. You did a nice job with it. Any pics of the other bowls you got out of that blank?

Jeff, nice work on the bowl, l like the downward facing rim too. How long you been lurking...too bad you haven't chimed in on your ability to get results (especially on burls) using the McN coring tool. Lots of lively discussion on that tool vs the Oneway. I'd say your off and running. Keep em coming...phone image or otherwise.

Welcome and thanks for sharing a lovely bowl. It's hard to beat beautiful wood turned to a nice shape, and that's what you've done.

Thanks for all the positive comments. I'll post the second bowl form the redwood burl after I oil it. The third one cracked before my day job allowed me to finish turning it. The second and third bowls are much smaller than the first. I was pretty chicken when using the coring tool. I think with more practice, I should be able to get three consistent bowls from a chunk of wood this size.
