Greetings! I am but another fish out of water - though, I mostly was a lurker at the Pond. I consider the Pond the source of my addiction. When I built this race car bed, my only wood working tools were a skil saw, a jig saw, and an old craftsman router. After finding the Pond and lurking for quite a while, my woodworking inventory increased to include a ShopFox cabinet saw (Grizzly 1023 SL equivalent), a 4x36 belt/disc sander, a DeWalt lunchbox planer, and a DeWalt 3hp router. (and various other "woodworking accessories" as my wife likes to call them) She has been real encouraging. She prompted me to post these pictures of this bed that I made for our firstborn.

I'm having a blast building jigs, shop tables, shop cabinets, etc.. I think I'm about to graduate to furniture for inside the house. I am well on my way to total addiction.

Cool cruiser Wayne. It would look even better if it was decked out as the #8.:p

Wayne:

Looks like that jig saw of yours got a workout. A very nice first project. Most importantly, you are a hero to the bed's owner and your inspiration.

Wrong Colors

Nice project but not my favorite Driver. I live in
the Home of Mark Martin .

This is also the Home of Bill Davis, car owner of
the #22 & #23. The truth is: My favorite driver is:

Looks like your first project was very successful, judging by the smile on the face of the new owner. Good work.

Nice job. The smiling owner really says it all.

Very nice project
Something to think about when the youngster grows out of the crib. Race cars are "low" to the ground.
Also you seem to have the right colors and especially the "correct" number for a winner of a project.

Wayne-
Nice job! I know of from whence you come- I started WWing because of my daughter and it has become addicting. My 15 month old son will be needing a "big boy" bed soon and I have been thinking along the same lines as you have. Did you make this with or without a plan? If with a plan, which one and where did you get it?

Thanks!
Mark

Thanks! I did it without a plan. I just got the idea in my head and started building. My mother-in-law is a huge Jeff Gordon fan and we all liked his old Rainbow Warrior car better than his current one, hence the paint job. I hate painting. Am I alone in this feeling? I love working with wood, but I am dreading having to finish my next project. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make that part more enjoyable? Does a spray gun help?

Well you did a fine job to not have plans, especially for a "first" project!!

LOML saw the pictures so my honey-do list just got longer! :)

About the painting thing- I'm with you. I despise it. I made my daughter a loft bed and she wanted it painted Cotton Candy Pink! Whew~

I am getting better with oil based paint though. Haven't tried the spraying route yet but HVLP is very enticing.
