I'm trying to fix up a Millers Falls #14 and also a plane that doesn't have a brand that is marked #5 (the frog looks like a Stanley but it has the union style lateral adjuster). Both of these planes have broken totes and it appears the totes are interchangeable between the two. Are there any companies that would make totes for these?
Thanks

Scott, I have one I will give you for the cost of shipping. It is not perfect. Part of the top horn is gone. See pictures. It is up to you. If you are redoing the plane and want it to look a certain way you may want to go for one in better shape. If you want a user and don't mind the look of a damaged tote, this one will work. If you do take this one I'd sand it down then use blo, shellac or lacquer. Whatever floats your boat.

Scott,

How badly are the totes broken?

It isn't too hard to glue them back together if it is just a break. Most plane makers used very similar totes. Usually the only difference is the wood used.

Check out Johnny Kleso's site at Rexmill.com, he has a page on tote repair if my memory is correct.

Paul-that is a very, very generous offer and I thank you for it! I've restored these things from top to bottom and I really want to put "restored" looking wood on them as well. It crossed my mind to try to make a couple of new totes and knobs but I know a couple of years ago I stumbled across a website that sold a new tote and knob both for around $20-$25 and now I can't find anything.
Thanks
