I am in the early stages of coming up with a design for a mid-height breakfast table, for which I will need some chairs. Any rec's on books or templates?

We are looking at something like this in height:

I like this style, and I can do the leather cushion:

Thanks in advance.

Alex, have you built chairs before? My first attempt was after watching the video series on FWW website, it was done by
Matthew Teague and was a great source of information. I bet after watching it you wouldnt need a source for templates, as
he gives some great tips on design and template construction. Hope this helps.

I have not done any chairs before, so will certainly add the video the list of research material.

I am not so much looking for templates, but getting the right proportions of the back, footrest, seatheight and everything else is where I will need the most guidance.

Chairmaking and Design by Jeff Miller (Taunton Press) is good. But my advice for seating furniture is to always make a prototype. You just can't tell from drawings whether a chair is going to be comfortable. You have to build one, sit in it, and get other people to sit in it, before you know you want to build a set.

Yeah Jamie, that is already my plan to make a prototype. Given the size of the table, I will be making 4 to 6 chairs, so a prototype which I can finalize then use to make templates for the final chairs is the plan. That is why chairmaking is such a daunting task. I can make a google sketchup model of most any project and tell how it will turn out, but a chair you have to sit in to feel.

I think that if it was me I'd buy a comfy cheap chair and use it for measurements. Perhaps even take the thing apart and use it for templates or more precise measurements.
