This piece represents the cracked and sometimes broken pottery pieces that were found in cliff dwellings used by the Anasazi tribes hundreds of years ago in the desert Southwest. Many are found in museums such as Heard Museum in Phoenix.

BL maple, 11 in. in dia. It has a round bottom as the ancient vessels did. All of their pots were functional. Used for storing grain or water, etc.....Comments?

Beautiful turning Wally! Unmistakably Southwestern! Really like the way the voids in the wood play into the ancient pottery theme! Excellent example of your work!

does not look like it would hold much water

but
it sure holds my attention!

Wally, that took a very specifically shaped burl to get that much of the NE and void showing around the shoulder and top! Beautiful form and color. Great to see you posting some of your work!

That's a beautiful piece. I like the height of the neck and, of course, the voids. Thanks for sharing.

Nice form Wally, very nice piece of BLM too. Nothing short of a fantastic
turning of a very nice, ancient form. Looks like it came from a cliff
dwelling in the four-corners region. Thanks for sharing.

Wally, very nice work. That form is such a classic, it is one of my favorites. What you achieved with the burl is really outstanding.

That makes me wish I could someday turn something like that. I see lots of great turnings here, but only a few make me feel that way. Thanks for sharing.

That is really spectacular both in shape and content. It demands to be stared at and makes one want to pick it up and study it. Several years ago we made a family trip to the the land of the "ancient ones" at Canyon de Chelly and it was one of the best trips ever.

I love it Wally!!!! I especially love how the "spikes" become part of the form/void. Honestly this piece really catches my attention and gets me excited! Very well executed. Get's my blood boiling (which I'm sure hollowing it did the same for you.)
