I will be ordering a new planer in the next couple of weeks from Grizzly. I noted on the website that they are closing out the Shop Fox 15 inch with a helical head. Additionally, I read that they had retrofitted the remaining Shop Fox to include the helical head. From my investigation, the only difference between the Shop Fox and the Grizzly is the extra year on the warranty and a slightly different base design.
My questions is whether anyone has bought and used the Shop Fox and what were their impression.

Thanks.

I replaced my old DC380 with a shop fox 1742s a few weeks ago. Very quiet. Mine has a pop sound when the wood is released from the top rollers. I am guessing a little adjustment and lubrication issue. Otherwise it seems to do a good job so far. Nice smooth cut. 0.005 roller height approx. The very fine ripples the cutters leave is very easily sanded out. You have to look close to even see them. Good bang for the buck, all in all.
