I dissolved my own shellac for the first time today. All the instructions indicate that it takes about 24 hrs to completely dissolve.
I made up an approximately 2lb cut: 125g of Liberon Blonde flakes in 500ml of methylated spirits. After shaking for a minute or so I got the idea to use ultrasound so I stood the coffee jar in my little bath - only the bottom 1 1/2" was in the water and, over the next 90 minutes zapped it 3 times with a 10min ultrasound cycle.
After the first zap there was about a tablespoonful of gel at the bottom. I stirred the mix and zapped it again. This left a teaspoonful. After the third ultrasound session it seemed to be all dissolved.
Have I found a new way to dissolve shellac fast?
