For folks that have (finished) hardwood shop floors, how do you keep your workbench from sliding around while hand planing?

Weight goes a long way to keeping a workbench in place. My shop had Old Pine floors, not finished, exactly, but smooth from years of traffic (it was an old railroad depot freight room), and the bench never budged while I was working on it.

If you find that your floor is really slippery, you could nail a couple of cleats to the floor to keep your bench from moving, or even anchor it with angle irons.

Get yourself some of that drawer insert or carpet pad at the borg and put small pieces of it under the legs (looks like the router non skid pads but much cheaper). My woodworkers club uses it under the benches we use for classes that are put on a finished gym floor. I use it under my bench that sits on a painted concrete basement floor.

Carpet pad works for me.
