I got a bunch of cedar a while back and this is the first finished turning from the score. I am going to give this to the fella who graciously gave me the cedar.

8 1/2" dia X 3" tall. Decorated with the Nova Ornamental Turner unit and topped off with Tung Oil Finish.

Comments and critiques are welcome!

Scott, I like this one much, much better than the box! Very nice treatment on the rim. Looks like a sub-vortex for you!

Very well done. With so many possibilities available that the OT can do, it's gotta be hard deciding what embelishments to choose. This one looks just right.

Very nice bowl Scott! Love the wood and also really like your detail work! Very clean and not overly ornate! The recipient is going to love it!

Scott,

This just isn't fair. Now you are going to raise the bar that much higher for the next turning contest!

Nice subtle details that really add a lot to the bowl....

It was handed off to the new owner, today. He was thrilled and caught off guard. He didn't know that he was getting a gift. The smile on his face was worth the time involved. :)

This is a cool bowl Scott!! The rim treatment doesn't seem to affect the final outcome of the bowl though. With that rim, maybe a chatter tool would have been a different route. Box is my favorite!

Scott,

Great bowl, great gesture! I really like the embellishment as it is refined, simple, yet stands out as being special. Please keep pics coming as you continue developing the decoration effects !

Very nice Scott. I like it a lot. Having the ornamental turner really adds a bunch of arrows to your quill. Looks like you are learning quick.

Great bowl Scott and I really like the rim treatment.
I almost picked up some cedar at the DWR, but I had already gone way over budget on tools and didn't really want to spend on wood when I have a big pile of free wood sitting outside the shop. The smell of cedar was almost enough to push me to it though.

Thanks for all the comments, everyone. The ornamental turner is definitely a cool tool to play with and really opens up a lot of possibilities for decorating some of my turnings.

Scott thats fine work. Gotta get me one of those OTs. I have looked at other texturing tools and always been disappointed in the fact that they do not seem to produce a clean cut.
