Howdy all,

I wanted to thank everyone for helping me out with my turning questions both directly answered and answered through doing post searches. Anyway here are my first projects. They are all out of kiln dried maple and the finish is Seal-A-Cell as an undercoat and then 4 coats of Arm-R-Seal as the top coat (the peppermill on the right though still needs 2 more top coats and then the peppermill mechanism glued in). The peppermill mechanisms are Crush Grind. What a ton of fun!

Take care,
Mke

You set the bar kind of high for your first projects and you did a fine job on your finish too. Nicely done!

Well done, Mike. And they look right at home with the kitchen in the background.

Michael - very nice work on these turnings! Most folks - when starting off - have a hard time getting a final surface that is smooth and without tearout. You did good on that! Nice forms on everything also! Nice flowing curves!

Looking forward to seeing what you turn next!

Thanks very much for the nice comments! To be honest, fortunately the designs are pretty forgiving. Near the neck of the right confetti lamp is thin enough that you can see light through it and the top of the left peppermill was intended to have a groove in it rather than a dip... the spindle gouge did just that and I took quite a chunk out of the shoulder of the groove thus it is now a dip! Oh well, I learned a lot in the process. Turning big stuff is certainly different than turning pens.

Thanks again for the nice comments,
Mike

Very nice job on the lamps and pepper mills! The more you do, the more you learn, and you are well on your way.
