I just looked at a Keen Kutter KK 4 in an antique shop and it appeared to have either nickel or chrome plating on the plane body (outside) and lever cap. Is that original?

The KKs are not that good of a bench plane compaired to the K
The single Ks are older styled Stanley Bedrocks made by Stanley for Keen Kutter
Is this a bench plane with a plated body? After market for sure..
At one time I had a friend that worked for a plater and have 1/2 my car chrome :)

Thanks Johnny. They were sure proud of it at $69 as well. I have to admit it did look cool however.

I agree with Johnny that the single-K Keen Kutters are superior--except for the blade. The thick, tapered blades in the earlier KK's (by Ohio Tool) are pretty sweet. And definitely not factory-chromed.
