My wife just got a bed extension for the JML-1014vsi and I am trying to set it up for her. I can get it aligned vertically but if I put a straightedge to the inside ways the tailstock runs though it diverges from true by about 1/4" over the full length of the bed. Namely the far end of the tailstock is ~1/4 too far forward.
Has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it. I am thinking of shimming the front edge of the joint between the two but I am worried that will overly weaken the joint between the lathe and the extension. Or should I just try to send it back. I know with metal lathes for machinists that this would be totally unacceptable but have not found much info for wood lathes.
