Cliff Guard and i did a collaborative together last year and donated it to the 2010 AAW symposium auction. We have teamed up again and produced this piece. It has been selected to represent our local Tidewater Turners chapter for the AAW's 25th anniversary exhibit. The form was turned out of ambrosia maple by Cliff Guard. I pierced, carved and bleached the form. Cliff finished it up by turning the base, top insert and one piece finial that extends into the form out of African black wood. Once again, the process was fun and informative. Cliff and i have enjoyed working together and plan to do more collaboratives in the future.

HF carved, pierced and sandblasted...no finish. Blackwood pieces are lacquered and buffed.

7 3/4" tall x7" wide.

That is great stuff! Both yourself and Cliff should be proud of this piece. The Tidewater turners is a great club..........I wish our club had as easy access to wood like you guys do at the WoodCraft store where you hold your meetings. I have been there and seen some of the work displayed in the store........nice!

How many hours do you think you both have into this particular form? How long did it take you to do the piercing in particular?

My only comment would be that I think this piece is enough for me to run out of adjectives; awesome, beautiful, nice, etc. etc. etc. Might also include inspiring...Good luck at the auction.

Well done!! I would say the Tidewater chapter is well represented by this piece. Love the white and black contrast. What did you use for a bleaching agent?

That took more patience than most of us will have in a lifetime! The simplicity brings out the elegance.

I thought I commented on this piece earlier, but I must have been so mesmerized that I forgot to reply. I think it's a wonderful piece of work. I'm sure it'll be a big hit at the exhibit.
