DOes anybody know of a source for small SOFT wheels for a spindle steady. I have soft inline skate wheels for a bowl steady but they are too big for a spindle steady. I think they should be 2" dia or maybe a little less.
Thanks
Dave

If you google aggressive skate wheels you should find some a little smaller than the typical inline skate wheels. I think these are the ones skaters use in the skate parks. I found some as small as 54mm. Still a little bigger than you are looking for, and I don't know if they are as soft as the regular inline skate wheels. Any chance of grinding or otherwise removing some of the excess size to get down to the diameter you need?

I got mine at Play It Again Sports, bought a pair of used inline skates, 8 wheels with 16 bearings for $20.

Check out the used inline skates at Goodwill and Salvation Army resale shops. Some of the smaller size might have smaller wheels and price will be fairly cheap. Also garage sales??????????

I got mine at Goodwill for $2. A pair of shoes gives you 8 wheels.

Got 4 wheels at our local Value Village for 3 bucks. They even have spinny lights that glow when they're spinning! :D

Skate board wheels are considerably smaller in diameter. They are harder, but I have read that that is better because they will not give as much and prevent whipping.

Try a model shop that has stuff for airplanes.

Dave, I picked up this brand new skateboard for $2.99 at Goodwill. The wheels are mounted inside 2" square tubing. They are on my steady rest but you could use them on a spindle rest.

I use patio door rollers with a 1/4 inch O ring You can buy both at a well stocked hardware store. I can send a picture if you wish.

Dave, Here is a picture of one of the wheels I use for my steady rests and one that I turned down to a smaller size. This can be done with all the in-line wheels with a wood lathe and standard tools. I used a sharp gouge to get to a close size and then a sharp skew to take a final cut. Works great, hope it helps a little for everyone.
