I've been meaning to post these for a while. My wife and I were fortunate enough to vacation in France this past July. We stayed in an old villa in the south for most of the trip and there were some interesting tools there. I'm sorry that the pictures didn't come out better! They looked fine on the little screen on the camera but . . . oh well.

On the top of the iron I can see the Goldenberg name -partially- and the logo. Goldenberg and Peugeot are some of the better manufacturer names. I think both are out of business (at least the business of making woodworking tools).
The adjustment mechanism of the Goldenberg iron looks very interesting. I can't quite make out what it controls.

The vise looks like a blacksmith's leg vise. These had wrought iron jaws, I believe, designed to take the heat from metal out of the forge and clamped in the jaws. The leg, which rested on something solid on the floor, was intended to transmit the force from hammering straight down to the floor.
