Real nice, Terry! Great lookin' collection going there. :) But yeah, you're right....where you gonna' put the rabbet and shoulder planes? Don't forget about the chisels, mallets, spokeshaves, .........:D But, as usual, way too organized and CLEAN!!! :)

j,

Most likely I'll just keep invading other drawers in the bench. One of these days I would like to have a free standing hand tool cabinet but who knows how big that would need to be so I'll wait a while on that one.

BTW...no such thing as too clean and organized. :D

I like the way you have them organized.

Thanks Jim!!

It took a complete bench storage revamp to make it happen. I have the whole story on my site in the "Bench Construction" page if you would like to check it out. Actually I am really happy with the redo. The bench storage is much more user friendly now.

Sounds like a copout to me. I see room for a finger plane in front of the second plane from the right.

Surely you have more than one drawer in that big, bad shop, Terry!! :D (And the tools to make more...)

You should really put a hinged plexiglass cover over that drawer to protect you collection from the drool of envious woodworker visitors to your shop.

Terry,

I have a solution for your dilemma. I have, or could have, extra drawer space in my shop. I could store them for you at a nominal fee. ;) Just being able to use them should be fee enough.:D

Think about it!!

Real nice, Terry. You have your bench plane needs covered pretty well. Some day you'll want a high end smoother (I hear that LV LA jack is a great panel plane but you'll want something shorter as well. Maybe the upcoming new LV LA smoother) and a longer jointer plane. Since you won't be able to stand those noisy machines anymore, you'll have to add a scrub to the list.
You must have a plow plane, shoulder plane & fillister plane. And spokeshaves, lots of spokeshaves, and braces, lots of braces and lots of bits and.....

Terry,

Nice job, the 1st drawer looks great, now you just need to add 2 or 3 more. What number 7 did you get? You also need to add a Lie-Nielsen to your arsenal. A 4-1/2 York pitch frog is high on my next buy list, but their adjustable mouth block and rabbit planes are outstanding (well I guess the whole line is wonderful). I've tried a couple LN saws and the new chisels, both are outstanding, but I don't have any. I have a couple Veritas, Clifton, Lie-Nielsen, and older Stanley planes. The LN's are my favorites, in part because they are so well made and in many cases works of art. Sorry for the sales pitch, but didn't want you to forget our friends in Maine. Great job with the drawer.

John,

I am already lusting after some LN's. :)

I got a type 15 no. 7 from one of the plane resto guy's over at Woodnet. Should be here pretty soon. I'll post pics when I get it.

Terry,

Yeah, there are a couple guys at Woodnet that seem to do wonderful restorations. Lusting is about right. I took a class last summer at the Marc Adams schools with Tom Lie-Nielsen and David Charlesworth. Tom had the whole collection there for us to play with, talk about plane lust. Just to hold that big number 8 was amazing. Other then the 4-1/2, I would like to add a couple LN block planes to the arsenal, and that is just the tip of the list. If you are looking for LN, the best place to buy is Fine Tool Journal, they have very good pricing and free shipping.
