Anything similar to Sculpey modeling compound?

I have heard that you cannot laser engrave a modeling compound called Sculpey. Is this the case? If so, are there any modeling compounds like Sculpey that can be engraved?

That is correct.

Sculpey and other polymer clays are made with PVC which will
1) damage lasers optics and
2) are toxic to humans and furry creatures.

No alternatives to "mold and bake" clays that I'm aware of.

Clay based bricks can be engraved, you might do some research on that as well as pottery clay.

Then you can mix up a batch!
