I got so many great suggestions concerning my No. 26HF that I thought I would set up a poll to see which would be the most popular if I was to change it in some of the suggested ways. I think these doctored photographs encompass most of what I read and if I missed one it is not a slap at anyone, just trying to limit the choices.

Option one is to simply add a finial complimentary base. This one I will be doing for sure.

181615
Option two is maybe a slenderer finial

181612
Option three is to remove the point on the finial

181610
Option four is no adornments at all

181613
Option five is one that I considered in the beginning

181614
Option six is make the adornments out of a black wood

James,

I prefer option 2

Option 2 looks the best to me JD. I think adding the base out of the same wood really does help balance it out, and the slender finial makes it all the more elegant. Good stuff, JD!

I love these type polls!! They really illustrate why when one posts a piece the responses are so varied. While there may be (and are) certain "rules" for forms, etc., the truth is "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and thank goodness we all see things differently. I voted for Option 5, but 1, 2 and 6 interest me, as well.

IMHO number 1, 3, 4 and 6 add nothing, in fact may be distracting. I like 2 and 5 much better. My first choice would be #2. It gives the piece elegance and flows with the body of the hollow form. I think the base on #2 is distracting. Too much detail. I think it would look better if the base was shorter and just a simple curve up to the hollow form. This and a buck will get you a cup of coffee.

I voted for 5 because I'm not usually drawn to finials. If you are committed to a finial I would go with 2

Option 2 but with a smaller foot than shown. And Black.

I'd have to go with No.2. I think the base should be simpler, just smooth, bottom diameter remain the same, but taper to a little smaller diameter where it meets the form. End up with sort of the same profile we see above the shoulder of the form. But then again, what do I know...form has been a stumbling block for me all along.

James I voted for #4 but 4 or 5 would be my choice. I think either choice is beautiful.

I tend to agree with John on this one. Well said and thank you for cutting down on extra typing. :)

I like option 5 with a small collar and a small foot.
