Music Box Help Needed

When I placed my last order of clocks from Klockit, I thought I would throw in a few music box mechanisms. I'm not really sure how to install the on/off rod that is attached.

Has anyone installed these before? Maybe I should have paid more for a better product; sometimes you get what you pay for.

Wouldn't you just drill a hole in the side of the box, slide it through, screw the mechanism down and you're done? Am I missing something?

I'm assuming that you would drill a hole up the side of the box, bent the rod so that it goes up the side, thread it so that when you close the lid the rod goes down to stop the music.

But if anyone has other suggestions I will listen.
