Hey All,
With all the posts around Christmas time I was glad for a lot of you guys as you scored some pretty neat stuff. All I got for Christmas (Not that I mean it the way it sounds as I was very thankful to get it cuz I needed a new one) was a Bosch Circular saw. I had a Lee Valley list for the LOML all filled out that went totally unfilled, as we have been, as a friend recently put it, "economically challenged"
I used to have a golf clubmaking business that was part time. It combined my love for golf into a hobby that made some money. As time went on and as I had to work in the golf shop instead of getting to work in the golf shop my love for golf dwindled. Regripping a thousand clubs a week doesn't leave much time for golf or anything else for that matter.
I have always loved wood working but I never realized how much until I got back into it about 2 years ago. I found woodworking much more relaxing than golf and so I decided to sell off all my golf shop equipment and outfit my shop with hand tools that I both needed, and wanted. I had been asked one time by a guy on another board that had looked at my web site...."HEY....where in the world are your hand tools son?" I thought, "what in the world do I need hand tools for when I have all this fancy machinery?" After aquiring my first hand plane for Johnny (aka rarebear) well let's say, I found out what I had been missing.
With the proceeds from the sale of my Golf shop stuff I was able to add this to my Hand tool cabinet that will be built this year.
Well it started out with a trip to Walt's Store ( A friend from the Woodnet forum) where I got three Type 17 Hand planes - No. 3, No. 5 1/4, No. 5. And then in the executive department of his online store I found a No. 112 (Walt's pic did not do this beauty justice) a set of 9 Keen Kutter Bench Chisels, and a Stanley No. 92 Mortise Gage.
Type 17's (http://www.johnswoodshop.us/Images/Type%2017's%20001.jpg)
No. 112, Keen Kutters and No. 92 Mortise Gage (http://www.johnswoodshop.us/Images/Chisels%20and%20112%20002.jpg)
No. 112, Keen Kutters and a No. 92 Mortise Gage (http://www.johnswoodshop.us/Images/Chisels%20and%20112%20001.jpg)
And then I paid a visit to ebay where I was able to get a Lufkin X46 - 6' Extension Rule and a set of Butt Chisels.

Butt Chisels (http://www.johnswoodshop.us/Images/Butt%20Chisels.jpg)
And I was able to get frigator's personal No. 8 with the Ln Blade and Clifton Chip Breaker. A highly tuned plane.
Stanley No. 8 Type 11 (http://www.johnswoodshop.us/Images/eight-1.jpg)
And from Lee Valley (and I won't bore you any further with links to pics)
Hirsch Mortise Chisels (3)
Sorby Paring Chisels (set of 5)
A pair of Skew Chisels
Medium Shoulder Plane (Back Ordered :()
LA Apron Plane (Back ordered :()
And miscellaneous other odds and ends.
I find my new hobby a much more rewarding and relaxing hobby that my former one. And since both are money pits, I figured for the sake of my sanity, wallet and my Marriage :D I should put all my eggs in one basket ;)
Thanks for looking, and for allowing me the opportunity to share this with you, as my wife simply does not understand my excitement
