Hello "the creek"
this piece was begun and long forgotten
has the opportunity to exchange views on the forum AFTAB, we talked about the inspiration that can give a piece of wood
and I showed this draft, that I had no idea
A member (Pascal Oudet) suggested I dig it the most. It would be a good exercise

This is the result of the exercise ...we will try to do better next time because there are many criticism ...http://www.websmileys.com/sm/evil/2.gif

Root boxwood that I harvested on the Larzac (southern France) in 1993. The tree had been uprooted by a bulldozer for road improvements.
h10mm X dia83mm
5.5mm thick
Have fun with your turning. Lionel

It's got to be higher and wider than 10 x 83 if it's only 5.5 mm thick.

Very interesting pear form. I bet that kept you on your toes.

Interesting hollowing tool too. Care to tell us more about it?

I bet its quite 'unique' to be able to actually SEE your hollowing tools in action!!!

It has a 'broken lightbulb' look to it, very impressive and interesting piece of wood.

Very neat. Is the red gasket glued to the top of the form?

What a cool piece! This kind of thing is what I'm into right now. Love the voids and inclusions. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice, looks like a gourd that some worms tore into. Good exercise.

It's a beauty Lionel, thanks for posting it. I enjoy seeing the evolution and techniques different turners use. I like the red depth gauge you're using. That's a good idea.

Hello all, thanks for comments...
The tool is homemade with W.Hunter Carbide 6mm cutter fixed on a 7mm stem
it cuts very well, but I learned that there is a great system in the US: Jackofsky tools available from
Craft Supplies. Not given, but it looks smart
have a look at
http://www.mikejackofsky.com/Tools.html
@ Curt: the red disc is not a depth gauge. it is stuck on the rim (because the rim is not complete) to
secure entry tools. Then I've replaced with the boxwood textured neck
Friendly, Lionel.
for information:
The other piece is dogwood and is completely unusable
