I started this bowl a couple of years ago. It had some major ring separation in the bottom around the tenon, so I decided to avoid a launching and leave it be. It has been used as a shop bowl up until yesterday. I couldn't take it any more... so after some epoxy and coffee work I decided to cautiously try and finish it. It isn't the prettiest NE ever turned, but at least it (and I) survived.

No guts no glory, right? Very nice.

I think I would be more worried about once false move and that thing would remove some skin.

I think that piece of wood has a great deal of character and I like it.

Mark - sometimes it pays to stick with it - this being one of those times! Another of your classic Cothren Walnut NE forms! Thanks for sharing!

You've just reinforced my decision to avoid natural edged bowls... Even your 'shop bowls' looks better than anything I've ever turned! It's another beauty.

That's what I was thinking too. I look forward to the day when I can turn a "shop" bowl like that.

Mark, you are the Big Kahuna of the NE bowl turners!

That bowl has a bit of an ominous look to it... like it was just waiting for you to try and finish turning it. Glad you defeated the monster without suffering any lacerations or blows to the head! It really is a nice looking NE. BTW, what kind of coffee did you use?
