I take it the HF\Thein separator didn't meet your needs. I just picked up a 2 HP used Grizzly and was planning on building a configuration similar to yours

I recall you were having some challenges with collection at either a jointer or a plane. Were these your major performance issues with HF\Thein set up?

Yes, the HF/Thien is now on the market.

It had two problems. One was dust collection in my Laguna Jointer/Planer, the other was in a cabinet I just built under my SawStop Contractor's saw. Both of those needed much more serious dust collection to work.

I've always been impressed how efficiently the Thien separator functioned in separating out wood debris, but it would be even more impressive with a larger capacity DC in place.

A second issue is that due to how I had the HF installed on the wall under the cabinet, the cyclone amazingly will free up space in my garage / workshop since I can store it to the right of the cabinet and put my drill press back underneath the cabinet. Hard to imagine how a huge cyclone could free up space, but being on a stand it truly did.

Congrats man! Just got my 2 hp Gorilla install finished today with the last of the ductwork. That 5 hp of must sound like a 747 at takeoff in your garage. I ended up building a closet for mine, what a difference in sound level.

Actually, it's much less loud than I imagined. A router is a much louder, more annoying sound than it, for example.
