Interesting wood (game call)

Boring wood is just that, so I am always looking for cool stuff. In the Maple I spalted last year I keep finding neat wood and it has been a ton of fun turning it.

This blank had a bark inclusion that had to be handled bit it sure added alot to the finished product!

WOP finish, still needs a buff and wax in a few days

Nice piece Ken. That's the thing about Maple.It can either be very bland and only good for cutting boards or it is full of spalting or staining from various vascular diseases.

I was a bit worried when I rounded the blank that the inclusion would affect the integrity, but luckily it stopped shy of reaching the middle of the blank. A good soaking of CA glue and some sanding dust sealed it up.
