Stealth gloat, I won a Supernova 2 at my local Woodcraft this weekend. I took 2nd place in the woodturning division and that was my prize (first was a Rikon mini lathe).

I already own 3 Supernova 2s, one with a set of 50mm (2") jaws, one with the Powergrip jaws (100mm, 3.5") and the last with the 1" Pin jaws.

I'm looking for a 4th set of jaws for use on the 4th chuck. Any recommendations?

Thanks,
Jason

Do you have a set of 4" jaws? I use those on my Vic to hold large tenons for larger pieces and especially if the wood is kinda punky.

The powergrip jaws will hold anything the 4" jaws will hold, and will hold more than that Rikon mini will ever turn. I like the serrated spigot jaws for the SN2 which come in several sizes at CSUSA.......they have more holding power than the standard jaws that come with the chuck.

The Cole jaws can have wood facings mounted on them which can then be shaped for custom gripping situations, like a wooden spoon or scoop where you can cut a notch for the handle to extend out to the side while gripping the bowl. I have Oneway's "flat jaws" mounted on my SN2 for that purpose but Cole jaws would work as well.

Take care

Congrats on the prize Jason! Was it the Palo Verde HF that won it? (I figured that one would have to win something!)

For jaws, I like the 35mm spigot jaws, great holding power and can take a smaller tenon than the 50mm bowl jaws. (or see if they'll let you trade the SN2 for the Nova G3 package (it includes 4 sets of jaws including the 35mm spigot and the mini cole jaws)

180732Yes, It was the Palo Verde hollow form. One of the big segmented pieces took first (very well deserved IMO). The segmented globe took third.

I'm leaning towards the 75mm long nose jaws, 130mm jaws, or the 35mm or 45mm spigot jaws. The 75mm bowl jaws look interesting but the thick cross section of the jaws severely limit the size of the tenon that can be gripped. I'd really like the Titan Powergrip jaws but they only work on the Titan chuck which seems to have disappeared from the marketplace completely.

Long nose jaws. Then 45 mm spigot, then 35mm spigot, then... damhikt ;-)
