As always those are beautiful! I was going to go to rocklers this morning and get some wood, the call parts I ordered have shipped and should be here any day, but we are in the middle of an ice storm and its like a skating ring outside, have to wait until later in the week to go get wood for them.

The cocobolo looks sweet. I have several board feet to make some pot calls out of. I think it looks great on anything. The other calls look good as well.

Very nice, i really like the grunt, could never get the transition from the main body to the plastic to look nice. You gave me some ideas. Gotta get back to making those. Carl

Last one of the day

This is from a Maple I cut up last year and set aside to spalt. In hindsight, I should have searched through the stack of blanks and found two pieces that matched but in teh end, you get a call that has spalting, mineral stain and some unique grain on the aft side

Ken, some great calls - I really like the profile of the cocobolo predator call! And, that vinegar solution really pops that curly maple - sweet!

Unfamialiar with a couple of terms:
1. the term "pots calls"
2. CA finish
Can someone help?

These are outstanding pieces - my son uses lots of calls -tempts me to try to make some for him! Great work.

Pot Call...it is a friction call for making Turkey sounds

CA is a super glue finish

Thanks, you had best get busy making your son some calls!

I get them from Al at THO Game calls. It is the standard reed set up basically for the industry

Finished these two this morning. Locust and Oak, both recieved the vinegar and steel wool stain

Nice as usual Ken. What is the vinegar stain? Just steel wool dissolved in vinegar? I've heard it mentioned before but not all that familiar with it.

Ken Hill

Thats exactly it Matt

Once you coat the piece in the mixture, you apply heat that makes everything react.

Too late for a pic Ken. Already gave it to the person I made it for. I took a lesson from you and used a torch on that osage. He was pleased.:D

I have a lot to learn - super glue finish? How does that work? Why would you use it over WOP etc?

Super glue, or CA(short for the long chemical name), is basically a plastic coating that is put on in several layers and as a very durable top coat. It can be buffed to a very high gloss. Gives a very nice finish in a very short time. That is if you can get it perfected, which I tend to struggle with sometimes.:p

Probably the most used finish for pens and other small objects.
