This is a dogwood hollow form that I turned last week. It was cut from the very base of the tree, just above the roots. The pith runs right through the middle and there are two knots at the top from some of the roots. The wood was very dry, as it was cut in 1999. I got it from the estate of a local turner that passed away. This was the hardest wood that I have turned as a hollow form. This wood beat me up a bit. The finish is sanded to 320 and walnut oil. It has not been buffed and waxed, yet.

Did I mention the Dogwood is VERY HARD?

I forgot the dimensions, thanks for the reminder, Steve. The form is 7.25" high, 5.25" wide with a 1.25" opening.

Dale..I really like this form and the wood is fantastic! You don't often see that much character in Dogwood and you did a beautiful job with it.

Very nice!!! Great character in the wood, and really nice work on the form. When I was a kid, my Dad always used a dogwood fork for slingshots because it was such tough wood and wouldn't break.
