When making small boxes how do you line up your hinges so the top sits square?

Thanks for the tips, first time poster and relatively new at woodworking.

If the lid is made separately from the box, I make the lid oversize. Then install the hinges making sure the hinge side is flush. Then once I am happy with the way everything is working, I use a flush trim bit to flush up the other three edges. If you are doing bandsaw type boxes, I am not sure what would be a good method.

I made the box complete, then cut the top off.

I make my boxes and then cut the top off like Dave.

On the hinges I use the flip stick on the router table so the mortise is square and the hinge sets in very straight and square.

The flip stick came from Doug Stowe book on small boxes.

That's what I do too. How do you line up the hinges so the top matches the bottom perfectly?

The flip stick, it is great little way of doing it and they come out perfect every time.
